ICA Youth Program
InSPIRE, India Summer Program Inspiring Reflective Exploration, is a 5-week summer program in India for youth. InSPIRE's mission is to inspire young South Asian-Americans to connect to their culture and realize their potential for making a difference in this world. Youth volunteers will be working with different NGO's (non-governmental organizations) all over North India. Last year, the InSPIRE group built a home for a family in the slums in Ahmedabad, built a compost toilet for an organization in the Himalayas, and created a PowerPoint presentation for the issues facing villagers in Mehdiganj. What makes InSPIRE unique is that it focuses on the self-development of EACH participant and will help me develop qualities such as personal responsibility, compassion, global consciousness, initiative-taking and leadership. In order to join our first program, ICA youth must be willing to meet a group on a first day in India. In addition, youth would be responsible to collect full or partial financial assistance in order to participate in InSPIRE. The total cost of the program is $1400, and it would be fully tax deductible for the potential donors on behalf of the sponsored volunteer. The costs covers all expenses associated with food, lodging, activities and travel within India, but does not include airfare to India and any personal expenses or purchases. ICA will make certain exception on case by case basis, if potential youth are not able to collect the entire $1400 in sponsorship. In certain cases ICA may provide assistance with airfare, if sponsored donations exceed $1400 plus air fare cost of individual.
